Rockridge, Oakland’s leading district in retail sales is located along pedestrian-friendly College Avenue in North Oakland. Lined with trees, atmospheric cafes, gourmet restaurants, independent bookstores, chic boutiques, and European type markets, it’s said by many long-time residents to be the best place to live in the East Bay.

The centrally located BART station and convenient freeway access make Rockrige such a desirable destination for both visitors and homeowners.

Locals and visitors alike find themselves sipping a latte at Peaberry’s Coffee and Tea before embarking on a magical grocery-shopping journey through the European style market, Market Hall.

The next stop could be for lunch at Zachary’s Pizza. To put it mildly, this pizza hangout is never at a loss for customers. Their secret is to combine Chicago-style pizza with quality California grown ingredients.

After a little lunch, shopping might be in order. Across the street, Market, a fashion destination that brings well curated designers to complement busy lifestyles. This small be very hip boutique makes one feel like you are shopping in SOHO.

As the sun sets, it is time for a cocktail and dinner. There are so many choices along College Avenue that it is difficult to choose. A beer at Barclay’s, the local pub, before the cocktail and dinner, is never a bad option. It’s a fantastic place to enjoy a cold one, with 29 on tap!

Wood Tavern is the place for dinner. This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and bar that one can sit either at a table by the window and watch the foot-traffic or up at the bar with a great view of the kitchen. After a refreshing glass of wine and a delicious dinner, one could head back up College Avenue for nightcap or cup of coffee.

Rockridge is a place where people greet each other on the street, chat in line while they wait for a baguette at La Farine, and walk home together from BART. In this urban neighborhood, a down-home feel still prevails.
